Chronic diseases and conditions—such as heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes—are among the most common, costly, and preventable of all health problems. They are the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, including 70 percent of all deaths in the United States.

As public health officials it is a part of our mission to prevent and control chronic diseases. Currently, Cabell County has relatively high rates of chronic diseases to include diabetes, obesity, COPD, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, breast – colon – lung and prostate cancers and hypertension.

The most recent community health assessment identified 1 in 3 people in Cabell County do not engage in regular physical activity.

The Health & Wellness department has several free programs available for Cabell County residents to prevent and control chronic diseases.
