Tobacco is West Virginia’s number one preventable killer.
Exposure to secondhand smoke is a common and significant hazard in West Virginia. In fact breathing secondhand smoke has been shown to cause or contribute too many serious health conditions. Cabell-Huntington Health Department houses a Regional Tobacco Prevention Coalition Coordinator who is primarily responsible for tobacco prevention education in six counties including Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo, and Wayne.
Cabell-Huntington Health Department facilitates the American Lung Association Freedom From Smoking clinic. These clinics are eight weeks and taught at the Cabell-Huntington Health Department. In addition to this clinic, cessation services are accessed through the West Virginia Tobacco cessation hotline at 1-877-YNOTQUIT (1-877-966-8784). This is a toll free service to West Virginia residents that are interested in quitting smoking.
If you would like to volunteer to serve on the Coalition please contact Karen Hall-Dundas at (304) 523-6483.
